Inground Pool Construction — The Complete Process
Inground pool construction is a multi-phase construction project that requires engineering, excavation, concrete work, plumbing, electrical, and finishing trades — all coordinated by a single general contractor. Here is what the process looks like when JHL Pools builds your pool.
Phase 1: Design and Engineering (4-6 weeks)
Site assessment, soil evaluation, pool design, structural engineering, permit application to the local municipality. In Chester County, permits are required for all inground pools. We handle the permit process.
Phase 2: Excavation (1-2 days)
Precision excavation to the designed shell dimensions. Spoil removal and staging of aggregate materials for base drainage layer.
Phase 3: Steel and Plumbing (1-2 weeks)
Rebar cage installation per structural design. Plumbing stub-outs for main drain, returns, skimmers, and any specialty features (spa jets, water features, in-floor cleaning systems).
Phase 4: Gunite Application (1 day)
Pneumatic gunite application to the rebar framework. Inspection before application. Shell cure time: minimum 28 days before interior finish application.
Phase 5: Tile and Coping (1-2 weeks)
Waterline tile installation, coping installation (bluestone, travertine, or pavers), bond beam waterproofing.
Phase 6: Patio and Surround (2-4 weeks)
Pool deck installation, outdoor kitchen, and any integrated hardscape elements.
Phase 7: Interior Finish and Fill (1 week)
Plaster, Pebble Tec, or quartz finish applied. Pool filled, mechanical systems commissioned, Hayward automation programming.
