Inground Pool Cost by Size
"What does a 16x32 pool cost?" is one of the most common questions we get. Size is a real driver of price, but it is not the whole story — material, depth, finishes, and site conditions matter just as much. Here is how cost scales with size for a custom pool in our area.
Cost by Common Pool Size
As a planning guide for a quality custom build in Chester County and the Main Line: a compact 12x24 typically starts in the $60Ks; a popular 16x32 in the mid-to-upper range; an 18x36 or 20x40 family pool higher again. These are starting ranges for a complete gunite build — your design, finishes, and yard set the final number, and a fiberglass build in a comparable size can come in lower.
Why Bigger Costs More (Beyond Square Footage)
A larger pool needs more excavation, more concrete and steel, more interior finish and tile, larger equipment, and more water to heat and treat — so cost rises faster than length times width alone. Depth and a deep end add meaningfully as well.
What Drives Cost More Than Size
Material (gunite vs. fiberglass vs. vinyl), interior finish (Pebble Tec and quartz cost more than plaster), coping and decking, features like spas, tanning ledges, and water features, automation and heating, and site access and soil — a tight or rocky lot raises excavation cost. The surrounding hardscape and landscape are often a large share of the total project.
Getting an Accurate Number
The only way to a real figure is a site visit and design. We provide a transparent, itemized estimate at your consultation and can model different sizes and materials side by side — and financing lets you build the size you actually want.
